Lonely Planet Hiking in Alaska (Walking Guides)

Excellent Overview of Hiking in AlaskaThis book contains sections for each geographical area of Alaska. It gives background on the area, tells you what types of permits you will need to hike, what transportation is available, etc. It also suggests several trails in each area. The book also contains a 100 page section on Alaska in general - history, facts, wildlife, transportation, etc. A great book if you want to plan a trip to Alaska but need to figure out which part of the state to go to. Not as useful if you want a lot of detail about a specific region.

Love on the Line

An Alaskan Wonder! This is my favorite book by Laura DeHart Young so far. What an incredible job she does in helping the reader visualize what life is like in Alaska and the Alaskan pipleline. I read this book from start to finish on the beach and was sorry to see it end. You can't find a better lesbian romance than this one!

Mammals of Denali
Published in Paperback by Alaska Natural History Assn (June, 1994)
Average review score:

Mammals of DenaliAdolph Murie is one of the greatest naturalists of this century. Gradually, I've been collecting all of his books. Most of his books are reprints of his original government research with hazy old photos, but Mammals is modern and up to date, in a larger format with brilliant color photography. What an excellent addition to my library.

Man Who Swam with Beavers
Published in Paperback by Coffee House Press (01 May, 2001)
Average review score:

A delight to readThere is nothing "traditional" about this book. Each story offers a new twist to an old tale that launches the reader into strange landscapes, real and imaginary. We're privy to the thoughts of a bear about to marry a woman who wants it all; a wolf-dog who eyes the smooth, white necks of anti-fur activists as they howl at a protest rally; and to a man's tormented dreams of the animals he's killed. Nancy Lord's sharp humor and sense of justice emerges in these stories. Each one opens out into the wider spectrum of living honorably. Sometimes gruesome, often funny, these stories are inventive and a delight to read.

Mik-Shrok (Repp, Gloria, Adventures of an Arctic Missionary, Book 1.)
Published in Paperback by Bob Jones Univ Pr (December, 1998)
Average review score:

A Wonderful Book to Share With Your ChildrenThis book tells the exciting story of Steve and Liz Bailey, missionaries to the Alaskan territory before statehood. Mik-Shrok is their lead sled dog. Together they have many exciting adventures as they adjust to life in the far North and grow to love the Eskimo people with whom they came to share the Gospel. My family and I are looking forward to the next book in this series.

A great way to build a memory. To journal is a great way to build a vacation memory. There is so much to see and do on an Alaska Trip be sure to take lots of pictures and take notes. What better way to record your trip that with the Milepost Log Book.
We lived in Alaska for 30 years and made several trips over the Alcan Hwy. Lots of great experiences, just wish we had taken better notes.
